About this role

About Privy

Our mission is to make privacy and user ownership the default online. We build simple, flexible developer tooling that make it easy to build products that put users first. By leveraging modern cryptography, we shift the status quo around digital ownership and protect the accounts and assets of millions of users.

Learn more about Privy:

• Privy and Stripe: Bringing crypto to everyone

Engineering at Privy is not just about writing world-class code. We create software that turns complex technical systems into delightful developer tools. We assemble tried-and-true primitives into intuitive, responsive APIs and beautiful interfaces. We believe in open-source work and transparency with our teammates and users. We encourage each other to think big, run experiments and follow our curiosity so we can build better tooling that lets developers shine and empower their users.

About the team

Privy is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of Infrastructure engineers. As an Engineering Manager at Privy, you will lead, grow, and shape high-performing engineering teams that make a massive impact on our product and industry. Your North Star is to enable and drive towards the success of Privy’s business overall.

As the Engineering Manager of your team, the buck stops with you: you are the owner of your team’s ultimate impact on Privy’s product and business. We believe that excellence in management is why our team loves working at Privy. Incredible managers are the core driver behind Privy’s long-term success: they are force multipliers, performance coaches, culture-carriers. They build the scaffolding that supports the team and each individual’s greatest impact. They shape Privy to be the place where each person gets to do the very best work of their careers.

We wake up every day driven to show up for our team. We shape roles around the unique strengths of every person and we are deeply grateful for the time we spend together building something greater than ourselves.

Infrastructure at Privy is fundamentally a product. With both internal engineers (and increasingly non-engineers) as direct consumers of infra platforms, as well as external product offerings, it is essential that the infra team creates powerful abstractions, educates and grows the Privy team on shipping ever-better software, and operates deeply efficient tooling to be the lever arm for which Privy moves the world.

What you’ll do

• Own long-term team outcomes and success of Privy’s product and business

• Drive the future vision of infrastructure of Privy alongside talented infrastructure engineers, across complex, cutting edge technology like secure enclaves (TEEs) and one-click Bring Your Own Cloud deployments, with performance and high scale as a default.

• Hold the team accountable to excellence in quality, throughput, and performance

• Ensure the team is working on the right scope of work and projects, align decisions with business impact, and build interfaces with other parts of the org

• Fill gaps as a player-coach; review PRs, write and review design docs, investigate incidents – stay close to the metal and reinforce our builder culture

• Coach engineers towards growth and their career goals

• Build a supportive, fun, motivating, celebratory team culture so that the team wins every week

Who you are

Minimum requirements

• Deep ownership and a high-level perspective on driving overall business impact

• Performance-oriented mindset, with a high bar for quality and excellence

• Technical excellence to be able to independently evaluate quality and technical feedback

• High emotional maturity, insightfulness, and care

• Strong past experience as a manager and leader – excellent management takes reps

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with any of the following:

• Designing and operating systems supporting hundreds of millions of users

• Secure enclave platforms, like AWS Nitro Enclaves

• Observability, incident response, capacity planning, performance tuning, and infrastructure automation (IaC, CI/CD for infra)

• Background in building low-latency, high-throughput systems for trading or payment processing

• Any blend of public cloud/BYOC architectures
